I'd say that almost 100% of modern day bala sharks you find in your LFS are bi-colored, as in black and silver. Now i know from looking at pictures on line of wild caught fish that there are still a few of the original tri-color sharks out there, black, silver and yellow (hence the tri-color shark alternative name). Balas are classed as endangered in the wild, are extremely difficult to breed in the aquarium, and so are mass farmed. It would seem, looking at modern day balas, that all modern fish are bred from adults with less and less yellow in them. This is extremely sad. An already endangered species which is commercially having its original 3 striking colours bred out of it. Has anyone out there got any balas that do indeed still have the yellow on their fins. I'd say you've got a very rare fish if you have.
