Have owned a Dragon Goby since beginning of Dec.2010. Got a second one last week. First one is almost 8" and never looked any colors other than dark shiny gold and black striped. New one is almost 5" and is very very pinkish-grey and black striped. From what I've learned about fish, the more colorful ones are usually males-? I put the little 'guy' in a tank right along side 'her' tank, about 2" apart. When they both saw eachother, they hid for hours. After a day, they went back and forth staring at eachother. By the end of the third night, they both kept 'pacing' and laying along side the glass from eachother. I figured they either really hate or like eachother. So I put them together. Would you like to know what happened?

It's all good! They bumped into eachother a few times. Never acted agressive at all. Now they actually share the same hiding spot.:D There are three spots that they both fit into. And a few for 'singles' only. They are always together. Even at feeding time, the smaller one follows the big one, making their way around the tank, sucking up their food.

I will post a video of all of this as soon as my daughter shows me how to connect my Sony up to the computer. Will also show my big tank of all female bettas. Will do this before the weekend is up!

They should be fine together.

All of the different sites I've read from, they all say that you can't have more than one per tank. That the largest one will bully any other dragons that are smaller and not let them eat. That you have to have many hiding spots, that they are loners and don't like to share hiding spots, etc. I wonder if the ppl who write that stuff really own the fish they write about?

I have seen many multiple dragon tanks.

Moved the smaller dragon to it's own tank last night. While watching them have super, :( I saw it had two pieces torn from it's tail. Then I watched as the larger dragon was watching things from inside his huge PVC tube. Just as the little one is 'vaccuming' the sand and crossing in front of the others' PVC tube - the big one shoots out and chased it around until it went back inside it's own hiding spot. I totally freaked!!! I grabbed some plexi-glass and stuck it in tank to divide them. Re-arranged a few other fish in my tanks, and put salt into a 20 gl, got my huge net and got the poor thing out of there! The smaller one is very pinkish colored on the lower half of body and is 7". The larger one has never ever had any pink on it, and is almost 9". The only other fish in tank are tiny BumbleBee Gobies, under 1/2", and neither have tried to eat them or the Ghost shrimp. Anybody know why they would suddenly not get along?:(

Maturity. They're gobies, and gobies are generally very territorial. I've heard of violet gobies tearing each other apart before. Do make sure that your 20 gal is cycled to handle brackish conditions. We wouldn't want you to have isolated it from its attacker only to die of ammonia poisoning.

I actually did a lot of re-arranging of my other fish and tanks very quickly to accomadate the lttle one. I put some of the more calm smaller fish together.* Then I put sea salt in a 20 gl that has been up since January, that I just took some smaller fish from. Used hydrometer to make sure salinity was same as the tank I had him in. Took his favorite tube and hiding cave, one large leafy plant that it likes to go under the leaves a lot, and put them in the 20 gl. Then gently cornered it and it actually ent into the net! Usually they swim straight up and jump into the air - I was so happy that it was cooperating! or just so scared and hurt that it was disoriented, and jumped in there, either way, it turned out great for him.:D I put an air line with stone in a corner too, but on real low, so as not to stress it. Left lights out even this morning. Gave him some froze blood worms, he came out right away and 'sucked' them all up! He's actually exploring around and doing a lot more than he used to in the other tank. I think it's happier now??

my friend had a trio in a 55 (all around 6 inches) that worked fine. awesome fish dragon gobys. you're lucky I would love one but I can't keep one
