About a month and a half ago I bought an Oscar from petsmart because everyday I went to work I could tell he was getting a little less healthy and finally had gotten a spot of HITH on the side of his face and his fins got torn up, otherwise a beautiful fish. Well I put in the time to keep him, got his fins fixed up and the Hith was starting to clear away, but It was getting to the point where I couldn't really get my GT who I had longer than the O enough to eat, so I decided that I would rehome the fish.

The Fish store that I usually go to typically has really healthy looking fish, and I typically see the right combos of fish together, so I thought it would be a good place to take him. I went yesterday, which was only 7 days after I had traded the poor little guy in. He was in a 55 gallon with a 9" Jag, 8" albino channel cat, and 10" Leoprinus, had fins torn all to hell, and HITH all the way down his sides...

I pray somebody with some sympathy comes in and buys him with the proper medication to fix him up.. I just can't stop thinking about it every time I look at my tank...

I feel so bad, and I'm feeling like I did the wrong thing... Some employee put the Jag in the wrong tank, so I don't feel that it was the owner's fault... I just felt awful seeing that fish like that...

Do they have a tank they could "hospital" him in? Why didn't you treat with medications to get rid of the HITH before you took him in? All fish stores have bad water, whether it's ammonia or high nitrAtes, and rarely, if ever care about fish compatibility when placing fish....they are just supposed to be there long enough to be sold.

Maybe the owner will take the time to treat him, since you are a recurring customer. Perhaps you could offer to take care of him in the store?

store is about 40 minutes away, i did tell him about it so hopefully they actually do something to help it... it was virtually gone when i traded him in I had done some of the epsom salt method before i took him
