One of my friends was wanting to do it in his 27gal tank.....its a long tank, but still. Whats min. for any type of trigger? I've kept them before, and know they are pretty active fish, so i was thinkin min. would be a 75gal...correct?

The blue-throat trigger is the smallest of the triggers sometimes available on the market. It grows to 8" which is too large for a nano tank. The smallest species of trigger is Xenobalistes punctatus which grows to 4". (NOT to be confused with the $1000.00 Balistes punctatus from S. Africa).
I've never seen the 4" Outrigger trigger available in the hobby.

Undulate Triggerfish (Balistapus undulatus) can be housed in a 50 Gal but most need 70-100 Gal. I think

You could put a small one in of any species if its only temporary and your going to move it a least to a 55 for smaller species.I would recomend at the least a75 for longterm .

Mmmk...thankz. I figured though that an undulated would need a 150 or larger once full grown! Aren't they one of the largest growin triggers next to clown and queen? Not to mention one of the most aggressive? I really like the nigers for some reason. They are just cool lookin to me. Magan LOVES picasso's though...haha

I've kept several huma triggers over the years. I like writing their entire name on the tank for visitors to gawk at:

Humuhumunukunukuapua'a
Which means "triggerfish with a pig-like short snout".

It's not the fish with the longest hawaiian name but, it's easier to maintain than the longnose butterfly fish; Forcipiger longirostris. It's local name is:
Lauwiliwilinukunuku'oi'oi. It means "long-snouted fish shaped like a wiliwili leaf".

Yeah I've kept picassos before, as well as nigers. Thats one of the first names i learned to say in Salt water...the humuhumunukunukuapua'a....cracks me up whenever Magan try's to do it!! hahahaha!!

No undulateds only get about 12 or less, They would be fine in a 55 but preferably a 75, This is coming from a marine bioligist.
