I am in the process of purchasing my new 150 gallon aquarium and i would really like to know if an amphilophus trimaculatus will be comapatable with my existing cichlids which will be in the new aquarium.
These include:
1x 10' male aequidens rivulatus
1x 8' male parachromis of some description, possibly a hybrid, similar to parachromis friedrichsthalii
1x ex-cichlasoma festae, sex unknown, 3.5'

I am very interested in a trimac as i have had them referred to me several times when inquiring about fish with ample personality etc, if anyone has any suggestions it would be great. Let me know your opinion on how it would work, if i need to make some changes or if it will work out fine. Much appreciated

a side note...." ' " means foot, " " " means inch. unless you actually are keeping some seriously monster fish:headbang2...hahaha

I found my Trimac to be the quickest growing of the cichlids I was keeping....he then stalked a Vieja Bifa to death and became more aggressive as got older, now kept in solitary as dont trust him with others...if you buy him smaller then existing stock, there might be a chance.

haha sorry i meant inches

and yeah im hoping that if i get a small one it will have a better chance of getting along with the others after living with them for a while, and getting used to its tankmates before it actually gains some size

not sure if it can work long-term possibly a female trimac has less aggression? my male is 8 inches now,got him at 3 inches.he is alone in a 75 gallon.killed all the tanks mates he grew with.your other tankmates are much bigger and may harass him to death, festae i hear grow slow.how is the hybrid attitude? mean? another idea would be trade in your current fish, try growing out a pair of trimacs

hybrid is aggressive but very submissive around the dominant male GT. I was thinking about giving the festae a while to grow before he/she enters the tank. I will probably be in the market for a trimac ranging between 4 and 7 inches, it may be aggressive at this size but it will be easier to identify whether it is a flowerhorn or a true trimac. If i run into any problems i can always divide the tank and keep the open option of trading in fish. Thankyou for your advice
