Hi guys iv recently purchased a trimac and the first 2 days i had him he ate pellets (hikari bio-gold) without problem, since then he has not touched them, i put some bloodworm in just to see if he would try that and he gobbled it down. I think i already know the answer to my question and that i should just keep feeding pellets and eventually he will eat them, im just wondering if anyone has any suggestions to make sure he eats as he managed to hold out about 5 days before i fed the bloodworm.

Yeah keep the Trimac on a pellet staple diet everyday, it pays out........As for introducing a avrie diet right away, be slow......If he is finicky on the pellets, starve him for 2-3 days, then throw in some pellets..........Once he eats pellets regulary, everyday, start introducing other foods like:

mealworms
bloodworms
crickets
popcorn shrimp

yeah all my other fish eat a staple diet of pellets and i wouldnt consider feeding them on anything else on a regular basis. Guess il just have to starve him for a couple of days then try again. thanks guys

What kind of pellets are you feeding? Ive learned that its easeir for me to keep a variety of pellets for the different fish i keep. not all of them eat the same thing. if i only fed one type of food then you would have seen a thread like this one from me a long time ago.
I feed NLS
Massivore
Hikari gold
hikari bio-gold
Veggie flake
Kens growth pellets
kens color pellets
kens krill pellets
soft sprulina pellets
carnivore sticks
And theres a few other foods im going to try as well but for the most part my fish room is like a 5 star restaruant;) lol And now that i think about it, my fish probably eat and live better than i do:) but i feed them whichever food they prefer consistantly and i mix in frozen krill, shrimp, talapia, bloodworms a couple days a week. Some fish are just picky eaters, andeven if you dont get such a wide variety by starving him like that he'll eventually eat but he may not like it andyou may not get the best results from him as far as growth and color, just my opinion.

He will ultimately eat. I would not deter from your staple food(s).

Stick to this plan. You were on the right path before you gave it the blood worms. I have had finicky fish like that. Hold out long enough and they will take the pellets. But if you starve them for a week, only to give them live food, you'll just be making the process take that much longer.

he gets
massivore
hikari bio gold
hikari algae wafers
flakes
then treats of bloodworm and shrimp twice a week....i am going to add some other things to my fish's diet though, so far he has only touched the bloodworm though

i had the feeling id taken two steps back the minute the bloodworm went in, i just wanted to get him to eat something. Would you recommend actually no food in the tank for a couple of days or just keep feeding pellets into the tank and wait it out for him to eat?

The only way that it has worked for me was by feeding pellets exclusively. You may add a variety of pellets if that is how you feed your fish. But I wouldn't feed any live food at all, not even as treats until your Trimac readily accepts pellets. If it goes on too long without the Trimac eating, then you may have to feed it whatever it will eat before it falls ill. I doubt it will last that long though.
