Hi all
I am looking for some advice.
I have purchased a trimac and his fins all have area's missing from what I assume is some sort of rot, also his colour is way off I know he has just moved in to a new tank so he's bound to be stressed which is expected but he has brightened up a lot but still very dull in colouration. Has anyone experienced this and what would the best treatment to try and promote some sort of regrowth if possible.
(I have been told there was a ammonia spike in the tank he was previously in) possible cause but not to sure.

Cheers

Poor water quality is first cause. Would just make sure the water is super clean and nitrates are low and should resolve.

That's what I was thinking, possible water change every 2days and good food and hope they grow back as he was an amazing looking trimac. Not sure if there is anything to assist in them growing back though

Not much else. Can always do a little hydrogen peroxide to the tail but looks like it’ll heal on its own w/o problem.

He's going to look fantastic when healed up. Water changes every two days should work wonders for him, good luck.

I agree about frequent water changes.
and believe many people keep Trimacs in too warm of temps, where mid to high 70s are fine.
They come from areas on the Pacific coast of Mexico and Central America (Guatemala, El Salvador) where winds can be quite strong and night temps cool. Sometimes too warm temps encourage fungus and rot, or bacterial infections.
The waters pH is not critical, a normal range between 6-8 is fine.
The color of yours is not so bad.
Mine spawned after cooler water changes, where temps would drop into the low 70s.

Cheers all, much appreciated for the help. I hope he gets back to his former glory. I have the temp at 29℃ maybe bring it down a little. He seems a lot happier in himself so fingers crossed

Wow, what a stunner, hopefully you can get him back to his old self. I'd agree clean water and good food.
