So I was at a different LFS today that was actually pretty depressing when it came to their SA/CA cichlids. Had a JD labeled as a Convict and tried to tell me that a festea and a lyonsi were the same... Anyways, they had a tank with "trimacs" all like 1-1.5 inches but only one of them had the red eyes, the rest looked like convicts. Question is, do some trimacs not have red eyes or not have them at a young age or is this LFS complete trash like I think it is?

they all have red eyes.
LFS is just selling. they dont know names and fish that much; hobbyists are more detailed into those kid of stuff more than the lfs. it's common

Well I sure wouldn't buy a Trimac from there then. Look at reputable online vendors. http://tangledupincichlids.com/ and http://www.cichlidsoftheamericas.com/
I think everyone here would agree those 2 dealers are gonna send you what you ordered. And they know how to identify the species they sell. I've dealt with both of them and I have had nothing but good experiences and excellent fish.
