Hi There! I have a full grown male Trimac alone in a 75 gallon. He has no real Nuchal Hump and was wondering if there was any tips to help it grow or is it just some fish get it and some do not?

A Nuchal Hump is generally a show of dominance/ used to display to females a fish high in the hierarchy.

When I kept a pair of Amphilophus Citrinellus, when they were about to spawn / going through prespawning the males Nuchal hump would dramatically increase in size, but after the spawn the Nuchal hump would significantly decrease in size.

In a community of males generally the dominate male/ males higher up in the hierarchy would display a Nuchal hump.

My Amphilophus Saggitae was the same, during breeding it would pop out

Now that he's alone he just keeps a slight knot 20210228_091804.jpg

trimacs don't naturally get that big of a noticeable nuchal hump until/unless they really get big and beefy. don't worry too much.

Honestly the closest thing to a 'Nuchal hump' Ive seen in a true trimac is cich78 cich78 beast. It has a forehead hump on it like none other.
I believe his trimacs are wild caught too. Very interesting nuchal hump.

My female almost has one and is generally pretty beefy. As I recall her brother, owned by DBLN8 DBLN8 has a pretty pronounced hump.
