Hello guys,

How to distinguish between a Trimac and a Low-grade Flowerhorn?

Following are pictures of a fish I have. Can you guys give comments/pointers on IDing him correctly?

I'd lean towards low grade flower horn. Its got a bit too much blue spangling in my opinion.

Thank guys.

Flower-horns are a HUGE Craze here in India.. So many breeders have moved to breeding FHs that any time there is a lull in the demand, these Flower-Horns are sold as feeders..:)

I got mine with in a batch of feeders at about 5 US cents... Now that the "demand" is back up and is primarily coming from people believing in Feng Shui, these FHs are again selling like hotcakes (at anywhere between 10 to 100 USD).

I got nothing against FHs. They are very playful and fun.. But these Feng Shui guys are getting ripped off as 4" ZZ Red Dragons (Low to medium Grade) are selling at double the price of a 4" Jag and close to the price of a 4" EBJD

Thanks again,
Sid

wow interesting that its coming back there.I'd grow it up and see how it turns out.Ya never know in another inch or two it may become quite a stunner and pop with colors.good luck. Not bad for a feeder :D

Defo a low grade FH. No trimac has all that blue pearling.

I see potential in this Guy just my opinion! umm to increase the kokster change the water once a week or 2 weeks. < The water is kinda cloudy and Temperature raise to 80-82 /32-34/ Add salt every time you change water. Rocks on the bottom. Make sure its red rocks or blue. Feed it meal worms for once a month.
Try Sp100 and Grand Sumo; Bio gold Hikari best diet they can get. Do not mix them together please. Morning, Noon, Dinner.

Thank you everybody for your input

Yes, I do water-changes in all my tank at least once a week. I have Silver Datnoids (Polotas) and Bichirs (1 Endli, 2 Dels) in grow-outs. Water-change for them is 2 times each week.

FH is alone in a 15 gal. (Once he is about 5-6 inches, I will try to sell him.)

The water is cloudy in the picture as it was just after a water-change..

Feeding is twice a day and exclusively Hikari Cichlid food (a mix of Bio Gold+, Gold and Excel) and occasionally blood-worms.

Cheers,
Sid
