I been growing out 9 lyonsi for close to 2 years in hopes to get nice pair. I ordered half from rapps and half from COTA. For a while I had them separated, but at some point I needed more space so I consolidated them in a 180. Never was there any aggression. Finally the dominant male and medium sized female paired off. They started giving the other 7 a hard time so I separated everyone. I left pair in 180. I hooked buddy up with what I believed to be an other less dominant pair. I took 5 to local fish store. Within a week my female literally ripped the face off my much bigger male, the 2 my buddy got ran havoc thru his tank and the group at lfs in 180gal also all fought to the death. Not only was I bummed about waisting tank space for years and got nothing but a female lyonsi out of it, I was astonished these fish were that aggressive. I tossed the female in a big community tank of fish in transition. At the time had carpintes, butticofris, doviis, Midas, umbees, you name it. I thought this female lyonsi may get killed and knew I needed keep eye on her. I put her in and she started kicking everyone's butt and took a liking to a much larger trimac male in tank. He had a small territory that he was able to maintain but nothing like the others. She fought and fought expanding his territory. Obviously this group of fish needed thousands of gallons to coexist which they didn't have. I threw the trimac and lyonsi in a 50 gallon aquarium promising myself tomorrow I'd open up a big tank for them. I got sidetracked and they stayed in there months. No spawning. Tank didn't have heater and was in the high 60s. It was sitting on the floor in the basement. I needed money and sold a wild umbee pair from Chris the umbeeking. That opened up a large aquarium, sooooo what the heck, I threw in the trimac male and lyonsi female. And guess what....this tank had a heater. Part of me was nervous that once they warmed up they'd fight. Nope. They spawned. I am not a hybrid guy. I like old school Texas more than red Texas. I like trimac better than flowerhorn. I don't understand the blood parrot craze and so on.....but imagine a trimac with bright red fins. That'd be sick! Not saying how fry will turn out, but that is a possibility. Now for the question. We all know they change fish family/genus/species etc all the time. Now they say loiselle is fredi. Which I couldn't disagree more. But I always wondered if trimac and lyonsi were the same fish that evolved with slight variations for adaptability reasons. Is it possible they same fish like different types Midas or different types umbee? Could the trimac be like orange fin green terror and the lyonsi is like the white finned? (Not referring to true terrors, salsburgi. Just clarifying a point). To all you anphalofus geeks out there would you call this pair: hybrid, cross bred, line bred, in bred or what? Thanks
