Ok so iv got quite a large community tank, inhabitants are one 10'trimac, 8'texas, 10'jaguar four 6'silver dollars. Came home the other week and the texas and trimac had paired off. Its not causing any friction in the tank as everyone seems to keep to there patch (the dollars get a bit of a nudge every now and then if the wander off to close)
Anyway the texas laid eggs and they have now hatched. What do i do? Iv never bred fish before and although i didnt plan on this happening i dont want to see the fry get eaten or die because of something iv not done. Should i seperate them from the rest of the tank or just leave it to play out.
Any advice is appreciated

can i ask why this has been moved, im not asking for info on hybidized fish im just looking for relevent info on the next step to protecting the fry in a ca/sa community tank

First off the fry are hybrids. Second if you plan on keeping any, you don't need to do anything really. Maybe move some fry in a few days to a separate tank. But flush the other ones you don't plan on keeping. Do not sell them to fish stores!

yeah i wouldnt mind keeping a few, would i be ok to net them out or will that damage them, what would be the best way to transfer them to another tank? Thanks

keep some thats a good start to making some flowerhorns

Yeah just net them. Make sure they have been free swimming for about 3-5 days. They should accept frozen and dried food by then. Keep the temp at about 80. Be sure to use an existing tank though if u have one! Then let them get big and send me one! Lol

well thought id give you guys an update. I seperated the trimac and texas along with the fry, have a great tank devider and managed it in one go. There are a couple of hundred fry all of which are free swimming now, all is pretty peaceful in the tank still, trimac is having a little gill flare at his refiection every now and then but apart from that its all good. both parents are f1 and pretty good looking fish in my opinion so im kind of optimistic about how the fry will turn out, il keep updating and hopefully get some pics up too
