How common are Trimacs? What would be a fair price for a 2-3" specimen? What's there temperment, max size, etc..?

What exactly do you mean by "common"?

As for the price of one that size.. I'd say 20 bucks?

Temperament: It really depends on the individual fish but overall they are aggressive.

Max size: I believe its 14"..

You'll get a bit more info if you do some googling.

I wouldn't pay more than $10-$15 for a 2"-3". Pure trimacs are relatively hard to come by. I wouldn't call them rare, but not as common as your red devils, that's for sure.

Meaning; how easy are they to come by.

Its not likely that you will find a pure bred Trimac in a local pet store. If you happen to come across them in a LFS and they are labeled as a "Trimac" I would be extremely cautious about trusting the validity of it. Make sure to ask plenty of questions where the LFS got fish from. More than likely they are a flowerhorn and probably a low grade flowerhorn.

For a 2-3 inch pure bred Trimac your looking at the 15 to 20 dollar range. While temperament is unique to each individual fish, my Trimac was ferocious in temperament. Always chased my hands and killed mostly everything with it. It especially hated plecos for some reason.

Max size would be around 15 in though most probably wont make it to that size.

If your looking for a great Trimac breeder and vendor check out Jeff Rapps, www.tangledupincichlids.com.

Thanks! I ask this because i'm on vacation in Maine, and i was visiting a LFS, when i belived to see a juvenile Trimac labeled as a Trimac, but I forgot the price...there was some other things i wanted so when i go back, i'll take a better look. Is there any tips i should know to be able to quickly ID a juvenile Trimac(any distint shapes, parterns, colors on the fish).

It's next to impossible to just visually tell an adolescent pure trimac from some of the low grade flowerhorns out there. If you really want a pure trimac, I'd get one from a reputable source.

Cavamart is selling some nice F2 fry he bred for a great price.

There's also all the other vendors if you're looking for something bigger or whatever. Buying from a LFS is probably not your best bet, UNLESS they can verify where they bought the fish from (cichlid specialist or something) and its background.
