It has come to my attention That the proper classification for Trimaculatus is no longer in Amphilophus.... Does anyone have info on this....

It’s still under amphilophus in the cichlid room companion...
.... Yes I saw that in my search for information...
What I was told on another forum is that they were previously lumped in the Amphilophus genus and since 2015 were changed back to the generic' Cichlasoma 'genus... with the the current correct name being Cichlasoma Trimaculatum..... I know some of the most knowledgeable cichlid keepers are on this forum just wanted to hear what they say....

I've always thought there were significant differences between the crater lake amohilophus and trimaculatum/lyonsi. It's very possible these fish aren't actually that closely related, but are a product of divergent evolution.

According to the study below, it is still in Amphilophus

Oldřich Říčan, Lubomír Piálek, Klára Dragová & Jindřich Novák

Diversity and evolution of the Middle American cichlid fishes (Teleostei: Cichlidae) with revised classification

Thanks ..... While I wouldn't be shocked if they had moved nor that suprised if they ever do move in the future.... I'm content to hear coming from you guys that they are still in Amphilophus.....
