I am new to the planted tank realm and am in need of some planting and trimming tools. I have a 24" deep tank, so I am looking for tweezers and scissors at least 12" long...but what kinds? Curved blades? straight blades? Bent tweezers? straight tweezers? spatulas? There are so many different tools for sale, but which are actually useful? I'm having a really hard time imagining the practical differences of curved vs straight scissors. What do you actually use?

Hello, and welcome to planted aquariums!!! For trimming tools I suggest going with something like this...

You can find these kits in different lengths, but basically I suggest a kit like this because it has both straight, and curved tools which believe me come in handy. Most kits sell anywhere from $25-$60 but the cheaper ones work ust as good as the expensive ones so really no need to pay ridiculous prices.... You can also buy them individually for a good price at TMart.com...

The expensive sets just might be better for fine tuning stuff (like thin tweezers for things like HC and hair grass) but if you aren't doing stupidly high end stuff then go cheaper at first unless you have the money to blow on silly things.
