I took a trip to Boston this weekend and of course had to visit the New England Aquarium. They have tons of great displays and a huge central tank, I recommend it to all who are ever in the area. Unfortunately I have no pictures to share from my experience but I wanted to share some of the things I got to see. I have a friend that works there and collects specimens for the displays. I got a behind the scenes tour and got to see some things that the average person might not find interesting but I knew this community would. First I got to handle a giant pacific octopus, one of the coolest things ever. I couldn't believe how strong and how unshy this creature was. Next was a goosefish that had laid and egg sheet that must of had millions of eggs (infertile) in it. There was also a female chimera with two, possibly fertile eggs trailing under her tail. He then showed me the jellyfish grow out tanks where there were many tanks each holding a different growth stage. There were other things but the last thing I'll share is that they had the first queen triggerfish that was breed in captivity. My girlfriend followed me around and couldn't understand why I was so excited so see these things. She was although, in awe over the octopus.
