Hello, I'm looking for good schooling and back and forth motion in my South American community tank. Does anyone have triports in open water? If so do they school well?

Someone posted a few a while ago. I can't remember. Good to see how they do long term. I know rapps brought them in recently.

Cool. Thanks. I have a handful in a planted tank and they just kind of hang out. Not sure if it's because of the obstacles or that's just what they do. The tank I'm looking to put them into is wide open and 12'. I'd like a shoal to go back and forth.

Saw a video on YouTube with some in a piranha tank and they were interesting fish. They swam around well but not in a group so much. If I can find it...I will post it for you.

Thank you. Yep they are doing just about what mine do in the heavily planted/wooded tank. I have 5 wide bars that I really enjoy but I feel like they take away a bit from the cichlids because of their size mostly. Does anyone have a good recommendation for a mid-top water schooling fish for a large SA community?

I like my yellow fin chalceus. Although I only keep one they are schooling fish. They stay at the top and have a nice look to them. He is a predator but a mild one at that. Only negative is that he can be a bit jumpy if scaredimage.jpeg

A mixed school of yellow fin and pink tailed chalceus in a long tank could be interesting. They need to be in a fairly large group I believe or solo. I have always had a single pink tail in my tank and while I really like it he is not very active. Perhaps in a group they would be but I have no experience to say one way or the other

Here's my group of six wc from Snookn21. They stay toward the top of the tank and stay together. But gets spooked easily that's why they are on one side of the tank. As I'm next too it but you get the idea. image.jpeg
