Trop. Gar and smelt...

Just wanted to share some vids of the Trop. eating smelt...This was his second one that day...He doesn't like to share with the Florida's. the first vid. is just of him trying to take it down, but he had the wrong end first. The second vid is when he actually takes it down. He 13" now...

I thought it was an accidental nice touch to the videos!
 
now THAT, is a GIGANTIC piece of smelt! i'm somewhat surprised the gar was able to take it down, although it's always interesting to see what they can fit into their mouths.

ps-- it may be easier on the gars to cut the smelt into 2-3 pieces next time around :)

I agree, and cutting it is better way to give the FL's a chance to get some! Didn't think he was going to get it down, as it was intended for our 18" FL. ost of the time they eat shrimp and krill also.
