Clean water, make sure your tank is cycled and has 0ppm ammonia/nitrite and low nitrate, IME don't exceed 60-80ppm, lower the better, also, a little aquarium salt will help, 1 tablespoon per 10 gal.

i have never had salt do anything for fungus. on any fish, it works for other things like ich or fin issues.

Salt do help a little bit but I don't really think you need it. All I did is pump the temperature up to 85 and it's gone in 2 days!
