Last year, any fish naturally kind in a PH over 7 was something not worth my time, and I don't think I'll ever know why. Now I'm totally infatuated with Africans. So now that I have dedicated a 55 to trophs, (still have one empty) I was wondering about tank mates. Shell dwellers have been an interest, so I was thinking that the open area in picture number 4 could be a shell bed for them. I'm more proud I how this tank looks than I probably should be, but I thought I would share, and it was necessary for my question. I not shellies, any other ideas?

Id have said a 55 was too small for a proper sized group of Tropheus to start with let alone adding anything else but thats just me.

I would agree with the above statements. If you want tankmates with your trophs in that size tank you will be limited to the goby species. If you upgrade to a 6' tank you can look to add petrochromis sp. to that mix as well

Agree with the rest, a 55 is pretty small for Trophs. Trophs need to be kept in large number (think 15+) to spread out the aggression and there is simply not enough room in a 55 for that many long term.
