I recently purchased 6 tropheus Bemba and placed them in a 24 gallon cube. I have 2 juv L. speciosus and a 1" decorous catfish in there. This is temporary until they are big enough for my 60. How big do they need to be before they get colored? Also notice some yellowing in band area, will this turn red? Hoping these are not kaiser, the lfs I got them from had both and since they are not from local breeder, I'm concerned the kids that work there perhaps mislabeled them. Asides from regular water change, any other ways to speed up the coloring process? Doing 25 percent every 4 days ATM. Feeding ground NLS, spectrum flake and spirulina. Any suggestions for future tankmates? Don't plan on breeding, just want a community setup. Thanks for any advice. I'm pretty excited about this project.

should colour up at about 2inches if they are bemba form my experience. they look like my juvi kaisers forgot what my bemba looked like young. you will need to add more to that group soon with a bigger tank as they will start picking off each other soon in a group of 6 but keep us updated with this project.

Oh thanks for the tip. I actually picked up 30 more pieces. I met the supplier and he sold me the bunch at a reasonable price. He also warned md about aggression issues woth too few.I separated them into 2 other tanks so around 20 pieces in each, will hopefully get rid of 16 of them for $100. Had to buy whole fry tank to get them cheaper. I am also in the market for a bigger show tank now. Perhaps 120. That's about all the space I can give without the mrs. Commenting.

My couple of smaller ones look exactly like the one in the middle of your pic, so it's normal. I am sure they will turn orange at some point. I will tell you depending on what you plan to do with them, long term a 60 won't be big enough. These guys breed like rabbits! You have some time obviously, but they are little horn dogs. I brought a group of 15 home and within a few weeks I had 4 holding 2 have spit and a couple have not. I have only seen a few fry in the rocks, (cute little guys) anyway they get busy quick!
