My wife decided to buy me some fish for my tank yesterday. I have a 125 gallon tank with Frontosas (small 1-2 inch). She bought two tropheus duboisi black with white dots. Now I don't have a second tank to put them in but I know their diet is more vegetable based than fronts. Anyone mix these types of fish together?

Not a good mix due to diet and the hyper activity of the trophs, not to mention that tropheus sp. should be kept in groups of 12 or more

With some of the foods on the market the diet is really not an issue. The behavior mentioned above is what you need to worry about. If you are putting them in their own tank you need a lot more or you will have 1 or none left.

You can feed them new life spectrum cichlids pellet. You shouldn't have a problem since the tank is big enough. I would buy more to add to the group

Or you could look at as your wife saying you need another tank get it and another 12 of your trophs.

All kudding aside though it is in your best intrest to take the tropheus out of that tank. As mentioned they are vegaterian fish and fronts more of a carnivore plus the speedy little tropheus will nip the fins off of your fronts. Tropheus are great fish try and talk your wife into letting you get another tank and 12 more of those trophs good luck.
