i was wondering what kind of tropheus this is. i bought him under the name yellow banded moori. sorry for the bad pics, I tried my best to get a good enough one.

Let me guess, you bought it at Petsmart? It's not an Ilangi, and to be honest genetics wise there's no telling exactly what you have there other than some mass bred fish that originated in Asia.

yes it was from petsmart. out of the three this is the only i cant id so its prob a hybrid.two of them are firecrackers but i couldnt figure this one out.

i doubt hes stressed because i bought him with the same colors and hes always darting around the tank. i thought ikolas have a yellow band in the middle not half yellow with a dark brown head

Umm...yeah. Darting can be a sign of stress, and if you got him at petsmart I'm sure he was stressed there. Tropheus don't always look like the pics on the interweb, especially sub dominant members of a colony, or fish that are sick or stressed

90% sure if that fish has any pure blood in him, it's Ikola

this doesn't have any Ilangi in it. This is Ilangi.




My thoughts are a farm raised hybrid.. but agree it has Ikola in it.
