what is the minimum tank size for tropheus moorii?

I thought it was fifty appaerantly there actually is a debat about this

I'm sure there are people who have em just fine in a 50/55. However I wouldn't feel comfortable putting 12-15 fish in one. Of course bigger is always better but a 75g is a nice "smaller" tank for them that they will flourish in.

would about five or six work out in a 55

No, they would pick off one another until there's one left. 13 seems like the lucky number that I have seen in the past to keep them in. Which is why I feel they need a 75g min because they need to be kept in those numbers.

oh, well. On second thought a suppose I will just do a ten gallon with small shell dwellers

If you want to keep Tropheus, you need atleast a group of 12.

A local breeder actually keeps 20 wild caught breeding group on a 40 gallon and have no problem producing fry. Keeps another 13wc breeding group on a 30 gallon. With just a sponge filter. So it's definitely doable but not suggested.

Hope this answers your question. Let me know if you have anymore questions,I keep Tropheus myself

Good stuff, I might just consider these for my future setup. One of the many reasons I like this site! :D

A 55 would be fine for a group of Trophs. A group of 12 (2m/10f) is usually the idea stocking ratio, however, I have a group of Bemba stocked at 2m/8f and have not had any problems (such as injury or death) in the several months I have had them. In fact, several of my females have even held for me.
