Hi there,

Ive posted recently about my 75G tanganyikian tank.. That is being setup and in the works now =).

However, I am now thinking about ANOTHER tank of 125 Gallons.... The hobby is taking over

I am considering doing a Tropheus tank. Any suggestions of what I can mix in with them? Or just keep it all species =).

Petrochromis are sometimes kept with tropheus. They get rather large and some are particularly aggressive. I think a small group of the smaller/less angry varieties can be kept in a 125.

You can also do two very different types of tropheus. I'm not a troph guy, but others can suggest mixes that will not interbreed.

Other commonly kept fish with trophs include gobies, Asprotilapia and Simochromis.... generally herbivorous stuff.

Petros are usually only aggressive with each other. I keep some trophs with my petros and both groups breed regularly. The petros can interfere with the trophs spawning but that's about the only issue, and for me, I'm after the petro fry. The trophs are just a nice bonus. In a 125 you can do almost any petro that's tank bred, and quite a few wild caught species will do fine in a 125.

Mixed colony tanks of trophs are never as great as they sound. One group will dominate the other. Coloration and spawning will suffer for both groups. They're at their best when kept one varient per tank, but multiple varients can be kept together. Smart planning is needed to avoid cross bred fry though.

Petros and gobies will be your best bet long term.

I really like the trewavasae and pinnaple variants :o

Thanks mike lol.

Its not going to be within the next month, I will be planning it for sure. At the moment, I am busy with the 75 gallon - still getting my needed supply.

My tank stand is 80% finished. Need to add doors, stain and trim:

Cool tank! Hope your get it done soon lol. And i dont know if this would work but what about clown loaches? I keep 8 of them in my 180g with auratus and bumblebee cichlids and they get along just fine.

If yuo go Tropheus you cant beat Dough Conkling

website is reserve stock cichlids. I've visited many times over the last 20 years. Standup guy...great fish.
