Hello everyone, a long time lurker who recently emerged here. :nilly:
Not only am i a fish keeper but I am also an avid plant gardener/grower. Everything from orchids, palms, and gardenias as well as everything else in between.

I was curious if anyone here has ever grown anything of the Tacca family?
Including Tacca chantrieri and Tacca integrifolia. Also known as the black and the white bat plant.

I have recently acquired three Tacca integrifolia (the white bat plant) seedlings which are growing nicely despite their said "fussiness".

Who else has any experience with these strange, yet intriguing tropical plants? I'd love to hear from you. Thanks.

Those are cool! Are you growing them in a greenhouse? I've found fish keepers also like carnivorous plants like Venus Flytraps and Pitcher plants.

Knowdafish: No, I am not growing them in a greenhouse. They are in here next to me on the bedroom dresser. The trick is constant moisture and a lot of humidity to make them thrive.

chonhzilla: Haha, thanks for the welcome. I have a ton I can whip up if you all really wanted me to. Maybe i'll start another thread for unusual plants :P

By the way the photos of the taccas that I posted are not my plants, they are just images i found on google. But I currently have three seedlings. Well, one is working on putting forth its first adult leaf (they bloom when the get about three, and during the fall season, so hopefully by next Halloween ill have some flowers).

You need patience with these guys ... as they grow extremely slow.

You should, I think it'll be pretty cool.:nilly:

Alrighty, I'll see what I can come up with and start a thread within the week.
But seriously, someone out here must have some experience with these guys ....

Welcome.I'm into tropical plants also,I have a few different types of Colacasia and Phylodendron.Which palms have you worked with?

krichardson: I currently own a large Spindle Palm (Hyophorbe verscahffeltii) and a small Triangle Palm (Dypsis decaryi). But I've had everything from a Flamethrower Palm to the Windmill Palm. If only I had the room for them all :P
