tropical pond in east coast

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Thinking of doing the same....someone said use a de-icer

Of course you could have a tropical pond on the east coast, but it is going to be expensive to heat it. Easiest way to heat it would be a swimming pool heater.

The big thing would be to insulate it, then you could use a couple drop in heaters in your filter. You would probably need to cover it as well.

You have to be carefull with pool heaters and make sure it has a stainless steel heat exchanger, most of them have Cupronickel heat exchangers that are around 75% copper. These can lead to copper toxcicity in the pond.

I heat mine, and have had it up to 80 degrees in the winter. At 70 gegrees it runs me about $50.00 to $75.00 per month.
