Hey guys, got a smaller indo that is about 8" and he is driving me nuts. He will eat frozen food, but only one piece per sitting. I am trying to fatten him up, since he's a bit skinny from the previous owner. I was told he will eat tons of feeders in one sitting but will only eat one piece of fish/shrimp per sitting. I am feeding him multiple times a day to get him to put on some weight.... but I was wondering if you guys had any other suggestions to get him to eat more food.

I don't want to go to feeders, if I don't have to. I want him to stop being so reliant on feeders and convert to all frozen and possibly pellets if I am lucky.

It's just so strange to not see a greedy dat, since all my others will eat at much as they can handle in one sitting and this guy backs off after one bite.:screwy:

I have one dat who does this. It's usually the "runt" or the group who will be a bit more nervous to eat while all the others do.

He is a bit of a runt... any tips on how to make him possible eat some more?

A dat that big will be difficult to change to pellets if that's what you are trying to do. But, it sounds like you have an advantage. The dat is big so he can go a while without food. So what I would do is forget feeding for a week/2 weeks. Than try the food again. Almost any fish would rather food than no food

Getting him on pellets is a dream, lol. I just want him to eat more frozen food, instead of feeders, because he is already skinny. He has no problem eating a ton of feeders in one sitting, but frozen, he will only take on piece then just ignore everything else.

It's something the previous owner had a problem with and now I am ready to break him of this annoying habit.

I want to try and starve him... but I am afraid he is weak already. I almost want to fatten him up with feeders and as much food as I can, then try getting him off the feeders... or will this just end unsucessfully? I'm torn.

Try earthworm, one of my weird datnoid will only eat earthworm and nothing else

one earthworm = better than a dozen feeders

Just wanted to give you guys an update... my big guy finally accepted this new dat in the tank, and he is feeding much better now. I guess it all has to do with weird fish psychology! :P He is eating at least one jumbo shrimp tail, twice a day. He is putting on weight practically in from of me, and looks great.

Thanks for your suggestions, guys.

that sucks because i thought that dats eat anything that fits in there mouth although he could be nevous if his mates are bigger than him than ya he is proll nevous
