trouble feeding pleco other food

i have a pair of 9" common pleco's and i was wondering if i might be doing something wrong. i am trying to get them to eat different types of foods like squash or cucumbers, but whenever i leave them overnight it doesn't get touched at all. so i end up feeling bad for them, since they haven't eaten anything all night and i put in a few of the algae wafers so they can eat.is it just me or should i starve them like i do my aro so that they can get used to the new types of food. your help will be much appreciated. thanks.

You just have to keep at it I'd say, theres a big list in the dietry thread of suitable veggies you can try, plecs like people have preferences... You should also feed them a bit of protein too every now and again.

nothing wrong with the wafers

try boiling the squash first so you can stick a fork in it then try a piece with the skin on

ok i think i'll have a try at again. thank you i thought i was doing something wrong or its just that my pleco's are spoiled.
