well, I have had a problem... but temp in my baby tank shot up 15 degrees over night... this morning before work I turned it down... I came home and lost two babies... I decided to look at the heater and it had sunk down and melted some colored gravel I had in it... I took out the heater and turned it off and it began to sizzle... I have to buy a new heater... should I get a smaller one? sounds stupid I know, but wondered if anything else might have caused it to short out...

the size of the heater doesn't matter. actually the bigger the better. the bigger the watt on the heater, the less it has to work. at my fish shop, we have 900 gallons circulating through 33 tanks in one big system. i use 300 watt heater in certain tanks to keep that certain tank a little warmer than the others. when i used anything smaller they melted. I reccomend a heater twice as big as needed. The marineland stealth is made to never overheat and it's unbreakable.
