Trouble taking pics

I'm trying to take some pics of my new saltwater nano tank, and I can't get any pics to come out clear. I have a Canon A620, and I'd really like to take some close-up pics. Any suggestions?

Turn macro on and the flash off... then play with the shutter speed... Or turn the flash on and try. every camera is different!

Macro settings will help. A tripod is also good to have. Each camera takes a long time to get use to in order to take the best pictures possible.
