Does anyone have suggestions that they use when their fish gets sick?
I have a 55 gallon tank with 1 fish in it, an abino morph Heros Severus (Gold Severum). As my girl (I think) grew over the years I didn't restock the firemouths and she is the lone occupant for at least the last 3 years. I believe I've had her for about 7 years. I feed her Hikari Chiclid Gold floating pellets.
She started getting really listless about 2 weeks ago and now seems to be gulping for air. Her behavior changed before that and she is not in her usual cave although she does seem to be eating. Other than behavior, I don't see anything wrong with her appearance.
The tank has bio-filtration. I checked the tank for amonia and nitrate and got a 0 reading. The dGH is 12 which does not differ from previous readings and the pH is 7.6 which is also within normal for my tank (although I realize ideal would be dGH 5 and pH6.5). Perhaps it is just her time, but I'd like to know if there is something I can do. I'm pretty attached to her after all these years!
