We have had 2 oscar spawns but have only been able to keep about 20 of the fry alive. Is it because they are a young pair or do the fry need a special food. We havebeen feeding them a fry powder that is 50 percent protien. Any thing else we can do should we leave them with their parents longer they were removed as wigglers. If left with parents we are afraid the other fish in the tank will eat them.

The other fish probably would find a way to eventually get to them. But I probably would have pulled the parents also for a little while.

It sounds hard to believe but with 65 tanks going we don;t have another tank big enough to put them in as a breeding pair. The fry were put in 20g fry tanks we assume those are large enough to house the tiny wigglers for a little while. the filtration is a large bubble filter.

Try leaving them in until they are free swimming next time?
If they are making it to the wriggler stage the parents should be able to keep them alive a little bit longer. Hopefully?

Can try hatching baby brine shrimp and feeding the fry that. I use fry food from Kens Fish(kensfishfood.com I think) and have actually been surprised, works better than Hikari first bites for me. I tried hatching the brine shrimp and figured it wasnt worth the hassle, just up to you if you want to try it or not. There are also other variations like Hikari frozen baby brine shrimp.

Thanks we can do that. Not sure of the fry food from kens but we have ordered from there before and could do again. The oscars seem to be good parents we can't loose any more leaving them a little longer. The fry powder we use is from J&J aqua center or something like that it has worked well with our other fry.
