There are reports of the Mekong river drying up faster than usual this year in the Nakhon Phanom region of Thailand.
This in itself is nothing new, probably due to dams further up river in China.
What needs to be taken into account is right now it is winter, that means the rainy season has just finished and the river should be full. It is normal for the river to dry out some what, even to the point you can walk across in some areas, but that starts in February through April and into June, July, August.

Now commercial boats have started to complain that they can't pass by Nakhon Phanom without a major detour because they will run aground on sand banks. This is too early in the year.
The problem for the NTT is this. They, as far as i know, are fished out of the Mekong mainly in Nakhon Phanom province in Thailand.
This is really sad news IMHO, because i fear this fish is going to be lost or become really rare just like it's cousin.

It has been a while since I have seen them in any stores....Sad news.

all datnoid (well... except silvers i guess) face a grave future :| I really hoping the adult sized stock i have right now will help a breeding program in the future

Lucky I bought 3 ntt from lfs last month.

Serious note CC, doesn't sound like good news for NTT or for other local fish in the same region.

sheet.. all these threads are really bringing me down.. do we have anyone who is trustworthy as a source? I mean koji can pretty much answer any concerns about the asian aro, solomon and the guys got the gars.. is there no one who got facts on dats?

Classic Chasis and Karun seem to be pretty good sources of the latest dat information.

Koji only gives you facts on the Asian arow because he owns a farm and his business to know.
Dats on the other hand are different in that, they aren't farmed, there are several species for different parts of the world, some of them are already extinct and apart from the information Dixon posted in the stickies and what you can read on the internet the same as everyone else, there really isn't too much known about them. As far as i can gather it's still unclear how they breed or how to tell male and female apart, let alone wild numbers of any given species.

In the title of the thread i did use a question mark if you look, mainly because I'm seeking opinion as well. I know the NTT are caught in Nakhom Prahnom, (I'm not sure about other provinces), I know how dry the Mekong gets in April and i read the local reports about cargo ships complaining of the river drying too fast.
We all know about the 3 gorge Dam in China. I'm speculating of possible future problems.

While you mention Koji, it makes me wonder how Aros manage to get on CITES list and full protection while Pulcher in Cambodia, Vietnam and in the past Thailand can and did not.

The giant Mekong catfish being the most prominent. They swim up river to spawning grounds every year.
Luckily the guys at Bungborapetch research facility learnt how to captive breed them.

Sheet ? Since you said that we here are talking rubbish and not fact on the Dats so you must know more about it or else you can't said that that is not fact we are talking here.Ok,let us here hear what you know.

He means " S.H.I.T."

I don't think he means you're talking "rubbish".
Koji is a poster in the Arowana section he has a farm in Singapore so he is very knowledgeable about Asian Arowana. He's like an encyclopedia. I think ettfettbranamn means he wishes there were someone like koji but with Dats, whose word you could take as final, on things like IT or ST tail and local trade in wild fish.
