There are reports of the Mekong river drying up faster than usual this year in the Nakhon Phanom region of Thailand.
This in itself is nothing new, probably due to dams further up river in China.
What needs to be taken into account is right now it is winter, that means the rainy season has just finished and the river should be full. It is normal for the river to dry out some what, even to the point you can walk across in some areas, but that starts in February through April and into June, July, August.
Now commercial boats have started to complain that they can't pass by Nakhon Phanom without a major detour because they will run aground on sand banks. This is too early in the year.
The problem for the NTT is this. They, as far as i know, are fished out of the Mekong mainly in Nakhon Phanom province in Thailand.
This is really sad news IMHO, because i fear this fish is going to be lost or become really rare just like it's cousin.
