I went trout fishing at a stocked pond yesterday, and couldn't get them to bite! I was using a trout rod with 2lb test and a small bobber with a split shot along with a swivel and size 8 hook. As for bait I was using worms and Berkeley power trout bait. Any tips on my setup or what other baits I could use? Thanks
If you're using power bait:
1/8oz sliding egg sinker behind a swivel. 12-18" leader with a #16/18 treble hook.
You can use a small split shot for weight but I wouldn't put any stress on 2lb
Remember, power bait floats. You can't use it with a bobber.
If you want to use a bobber, tie on a mini jig w/ a 24-48" leader, depending on lake depth.
Add a piece of a nightcrawler or whole meal worm. Keep twitching the bobber while reeling in very slowly. Pause for 5 sec once in a while.
Or you can always just go the straight worm route.
Try throwing spoons, rooster tails, mepps, Thomas buoyant, etc. stocker trout readily hit lures and bait.
