Anybody ever keep brook trout? I was looking for more info on them like specifics, like water temp. I looked online but can't find very many specifics on them, only the basics that a fisherman would need to know, like they need temps lower than 75 degrees. Ok, but whats prefered? 70's, 60's, 50's? Any info would be apreciated. Thanks. Also, any experience with keeping anykind of trout would be interesting.

Welcome to MFK!!!

This has come up a few times before. Trout can survive temps in the 70's for a short time provided there's tons of aeration. These fish require a very high DO saturation and strong currents (with breaks of course). A preferable setup is a stream tank with a high end-to-end volume flow. Temp should be in the mid 50s to low 60s. Live, frozen, and prepared foods are all easily taken so long as the food has a high meat protein value. Substrate can be mixed fine and coarse gravels with a few large rocks at the back and front to cause current breaks for any fish that wants a calm spot away from the main current.

Just noticed you're in CA. That state prohibits keeping indiginous fish in aquariums. Go with non-local species if you intend to set this system up. Weird law...you can catch them and retain them dead but never retain them alive.

Thanks guys, that is exactly what I was looking for. I was planning on putting them in a long tank with a bunch of powerheads on one side to immitate a stream, with some big rocks here and there to break the current. I know I would need to cool the water, but couldn't find any specific info on water temp and parameter requirements.
I haven't started looking into legalities yet, I know that you can't catch and keeep the fish alive, but I wasn't sure if it was ok if I got them from a hatchery. The thing is I want to keep trout, and the brook trout is the only one that stays a reasonable size. I would go with rainbows or browns, but they are also in california. I really don't know of any trout that are not found in california, so if it's completely illegal than I'm pretty screwd.
