Can you keep trout in an aquarium?
i was thinking a smaller species. are there any trout that could live in a 55gallon? If so i was thinking rocks with a powerhead for deco..
55 seems really small for any trout though. has anyone kept trout?
thanks

a 55 is wayy too small for most trout. Trout get very big very fast if cared for properly. Also, they need fast moving water to stay healthy. Brook trout stay relatively small, possibly if you can rig up a chiller and a fast moving pump, it might work? I wish I could keep a few trout in my 55, as they are BEAUTIFUL fish

They also prefer cooler water, which makes a chiller a good idea.

From experience, not a good idea...if you can get (or make) a chiller its might work as said before. Brown trout and rainbow trout get way too big for a 55, but I think you could keep a brookie just fine in a 55 gallon. I've kept trout without a chiller as a beginner fish keeper and it didn't go so well. Making a chiller won't be that hard if you're serious about it.

The hardest thing with a Brook trout is that it has one of the lower temp ranges it likes it's water in the upper to mid 50's. Browns have the highest mid 60's the highest being 70 and they get a bit bigger but The Browns have a longer lifespan.

try more live foods frozen and woms and high quality pellets

brook trout can get up to 2' and 15 lb. plus, but that's not very common. they are territorial so more than one probably won't work in a 55 (if you've ever fished for them in a stream, you'll know what I mean). if you could get a hold of an arctic grayling, you might have better luck, but the water has to be even colder. still, the width of the 55 is going to limit a grayling, too. IMHO, forget about keeping a trout in a 55 for very long
