I need confirmations from anyone if the true altums have actually been bred in captivity. Most of the documentaries show Peruvian scalares mistaken for true altums so I'm a little skeptical of the claims that they have. If possible, please post links to the documents where they have actually bred.

Here's one I found.

Hi Lupin. Took some pics from the Taiwanese magazine called Aquazoo news, March 2009 edition. Here are pics of the article.

If only I understand Taiwanese, it would be a breeze reading the article understandably. No english translation? I've seen some of those pics in Youtube. That's amazing accomplishment.

I would have to get my girlfriend to help me translate as my Chinese are not nearly good enough.

Interesting thing a guy at an LFS told me. I asked him if the farm raised ones he was selling would get fins as long as the wild caught ( as they looked 'shorter' ) and he told me they wouldn't as the pressure of the water aids the fish in getting so 'tall'.

Guys, I need more information here before I update the altum database. Thanks.

Perhaps if I scan this and send it to Li he can translate it?
He probably won't have too much time about that. I was hoping some people who know Chinese/Taiwanese language would pop in.

the people here speak and write Chinese. The Taiwanese language has no official written form.

I just had an idea, my adult students are always aching for some challenging work. I will ask one of them to translate the articles. Then post it on here or PM you?

Either works, Cockroach. I still want to read the English translation of the magazine including breeding procedures.:)
