Hello guys,

This is my first real time growing out amphilophus at all, and I have 6 growing. They have doubled in size going from 2-3" to now 4-5"+ when do these guys start developing nuchal humps? I hope I don't have 6 females! I would think that they would develop a chain of dominance by now. They are not aggressive twords each other at all, actually I see them challenge each other here and there, maybe 1 time a week. I'm really enjoying this group they are great fish to keep and each one of them has their own look color wise. This is not their permanent home just a grow out tank til I can get something bigger. Please give your advice!

Yea they won't start beating on each other till they start nearing sexual maturity. maybe a few months. Mine are the same size as yours and I get occasional lip locking but nothing serious. As for nuchal growth, that is a hormonal response to being ready to breed. It will happen in time. I'm trying an experiment now where I have a female convict with my Midas. The female con is ALWAYS ready to breed and I'm hoping it will let me identify males sooner, rather than netting them and venting them.

Give it time. Everything will happens as it is supposed to be, be they pure or Midevils...no difference whatsoever...

They're looking real good! I'm a big fan of the creamsicle Midas. Towards the bottom of pic #1 it looks like you've got an orange middevil with some black on him - thats a good look too.

I see you're in VA too, where did you get your stock from? I can't find anything around me. I'm near Va Beach.

Decoy I got these from a well known member here "freshwaterpredators".

They aren't midevils I got them from know source so they WOULDNT be midevils :) they are creamsicle citrinellum, the one that your talking about is still in the process of fading I think it will turn out solid orange :)

Looking very good brotha!!! I agree with the humps coming in when displaying for opposite sex, that's where I've noticed it with mine. I still have a few left ranging from orange to solid white/orange plus one Rapps f1 female:) keep up the good work

If they're Jason's, i believe you can talk Midas.

You should have mentioned that first if not people here always assume midevils.
Although it was in your title.

The humps should grow out soon. IME usually around Anywhere between 5-7"

They will sort themselves out and you might even get a pair in which case you want to watch carefully.
