True Green Terrors !

Hi guy's

I thought i'd open this thread as i have noticed that some people seem to think that the GOLDSAUM is the TRUE GREEN TERROR even some LFS's sell the GOLDSAUM off as a GREEN TERROR easily done as they both do look similar so i have found some pictures to show off the difference between the 2 species so then people can then have a knowing and understanding of the 2 fish.

This is a Goldsaum notice the bright gold trim on the ends of the dorasl, caudal fins this fish is found in Northern peru and Southern Ecuador.


Here we have the True Green Terror he dosen't have the bright gold trim on the dorsal or caudal fins like the Goldsaum he's found in Southern Peru.


I hope this infomation has come usefull to people who didn't know.

So almost all the LFS's around here are falsly selling Goldsaums as GT's or is the Goldsaum just a variation of GT?

Both speices are from the 'Aequidens' sp genre the Goldsaum is just sold as a false green terror. But to answer you question " YES " it is just a variation of Green Terror.
 
I like the colors way better on the GoldSaum and they usually get a little bigger too but are said to be not as aggressive as the real GT. Also Dan i can't believe your FH hasn't mauled everything in your tank. You must have lucked out and got a pussy. My FH at only 5" has killed a 4"JD, 6" Sevrum, 6" TigerOscar , and 2 6"Commom Pleco's. When he hits 8" i wouldn't dare try to keep mine with anything..........

Yeah he's fine he does tend to get a little bossy at meal times but other than that he's a great asset to my tank. I think the key when keeping cichlids is space and territory provid them that and you should be able to keep them for as long as possable.

But i agree with you the goldsaums look better as far as colur go's.
