Has anybody ever had any problems keeping these things omnivores or carnivores? Also, is it safe to get just 2 of them or do I need more to spread aggression.

I've been fascinated by this species, but they are hard to come by, I know Rapps has had some recently.
Most cichlids that have a reputation for being herbivores actually do better on a higher protein diet when kept in captivity - they have faster growth and come in to spawning conditon faster.
The diet sited here is actually insects, crustaceans and other fish.

I have had SA cichlids that will eat vegetable matter to no end - but it never seems to do much for them as far as growth or spawning.
I don't see how feeding them the appropriate sources or protein would be a problem.

I just didn't know if they would have any ill effects from living with carnivores. I keep omni and carni so feed a variety of meat and vegetable protein.
So the next question... can I keep more than 1? Is 2 out of the question or am I supposed to have 3 or 4.

I bought two 6-7" wild caught from Jeff Rapps. They should be at my door on Tuesday. I'll post some pics of them in my QT.
Thats alot for shipping. I paid 57.00. He is sending next day with a before noon delivery, which makes it more expensive.
My lfs has them al the time, and I have kept one in my life. I payed 30$ for a 3.5"er. He ate cichlid gold and frozen krill. cool fish.
NJ is big in import and wholesale. It must be nice. I have to drive an hour in both directions, up hill, and in the snow if I want something besides a betta.
