How much are these guys going for these days? My LFS got three monster wild caughts in but they want an astonishing $150 a pop and they are looking pretty rough (just came in). They are a solid 10+ inches though. They also have some 2" babies for $45. What do yall think?

I think a little high. 100 is prob more fair. They have a little baby one for 30 in my area. That being said I rarely see them at lfs

What are the chances of the wild caught babies growing up with bold colors? Less or the same as the adults they have brought in? I had one several years ago and other then my C. orinocensis it was my favorite cichlid ever!

The young ones should look just like the adults when they grow out. Some wild adult fish (like blue heckel discus, for example) will fade after they are imported, most likely because they're not getting the right combination of diet and water parameters, but otherwise I've never known young wilds not to reach the same potential as adult wilds. My psittacus came to me at thumbnail size and they still grew into beautiful blue-green fish. The key is keeping their water very clean. A happy, healthy parrot will be a colorful parrot.

That price is a little high but by the time you pay shipping from a vendor it works out to about the same.

Those prices are too high for either size. I haven't seen wilds below 3" come in ever and 2" sell for more like $25-30 each. I would think $75-80 would be fair for a 10" H. psittacus. They are difficult to breed, but they aren't exactly rare fish, so they don't demand quite that high a price. Wetspot has a wild 5" for $40. Some of the big importers like Wetspot, Rapps, Snookn21, etc will get them in at certain times of the year for good prices.

I had been selling young Parrots (2 to 4") over the last year for $5 to $10 each locally and they've also been distributed out of province by my local wholesaler. I'm in Canada but there is little demand for them up here. I just let a breeding pair go for $80, male 12" female 9". I won't be saving any more young for quite a while. Be nice if I could ship to the US.
