I bought this guy knowing it was a mayan but a friend of mine said it looks like a female festae but very faded. Said the cause coulf be from being in a 75 with other large fish. What do you think because he wants to buy it from me. If its not a festae its no biggy to me but with the dark color i can still see the Y from the 2 stripes

+1 looks like a festae male to me, thats a first lol somebody buying what they think is a Uro and getting an actual festae haha its usually the other way around! good buy!!! def need bigger than 75g though if your gonna keep it

actually it could be a female since it doesnt really look like it has any spangling and light in dorsal looks like where it would be black if its not stressed, so just may be a female but would need to see its non stressed colors to be sure (or vent)

Hmm, I never go by the Y bars as some festaes don't get bars much at all. What helps me is the EYE on the tail. The eye looks like its at the top half of the tail, and the blue on the dorsals ( I don't think Mayans have the blues on dorsals).

Take care of it, feed good food and in no time should look stunning.

Female

Festae male...maybe stressed or faded
