So I acquired a true stonefish aSynanceia verrucosa about 4 weeks ago he's eating and looking good as far as I can tell.. Anyone up on diseases...there seems to be very little available on these guys, but he's as active as, well a stone would be expected to be maybe he moves x2 a day 3-4 in avg per move...

So little info is avaliable on these guys, I'll startup with the basics on my guy...
Yes, it is lethal, 2 hours Is the estimated time until death after sting,we have checked with local hospitals and confirmed availability of antivenons, this is not a fish to be taken lightly by any means

He weighs in at 346.5 grams
Appx 6 inches in length
3 in in width
3 in in height

...
As

I purchased him for 550 Thai bah tai appx 15 usd.
I let him settle in a 75 gal acedaqt tank.. For 4 weeks
So far he's been eating fresh water ghost shrimp and salt ghosts, brine shrimp, whole clams from the gulf of Thailand as well as mantis shrimp ect,
Today he has been re located to my 350 with a philipino hq tusk 5 inches, a dog faced puffer 8 in and a princess parrot 10 in

Wow... you've got some currage keeping one of them haha, the leathality would definatly stop me from ever getting one. Can't wait to see it (assuming you post pics).

I would love to have a shot at keeping one of these, unforunately I think they are illegal to posses in the US.

+1 sweet fish, looking for pics at this point.

dude i dont think they are illegal to own in us my lfs gets em all the time

True stones are nothing to mess with. We had one at Dallas World Aq when I was there. Nobody wanted to mess with that tank. Isolated tank, couple of covers on it. We used to feed it with 2 people at a time, just as a safety thing.

As for the first post (diseases), they are like alot of the scopion fish.... very resistant to most things. Unless it has an open cut that gets infected or something goes wrong interenally, they are very hardy.

True stonefish? Or scorpionfish? Maybe I am mistaken, but this is why scientific names are so important. We had a thread in here about half a year ago where the consensus was that you couldnt own one without some sort of special permit.

One ugly SOB... LOVE IT! haha, I really wish scorpions/frog-fish/leaf-fish/anglers where reef safe, as I love their character and rough appearances... That said I am thinking about getting a mini angler if I see one come up for sale, one of the ones that only gets to like 3-4" so he at best will only pick off a small chromis once and a wile.
