Is this a Herichthys cyanoguttatus? It doesn't really have a long snout like seems in picture. That is camera angle. I have cool water like 62°-65° and don't want to put texas hybrid in it cause they need warmer water.imagejpeg_0_07.jpgimagejpeg_1_03.jpg

Dude has spots all over his face. Is that a trait of Herichthys cyanoguttatus?

It looks like a Texas Cichlid but to be certain if it's pure one would need to know where the location the fish was collected from. If from a fish farm it possibly could be a hybrid.

H. cyanoguttatus usually doesn't have spots on the "forehead area" between the eyes to the upper jaw line.
It it were mine (knowing how long carpintus and cyanoguttaus have been mixed up (decades), I would expect it to be an aquarium strain combination, especially if it was LFS bought.
H carpintus does usually have spots totally covering the face, like the H carpintus "Chairel" below.

That said, carpintus also come from northern, middle and southern Mexico, so temps, especially in the northern regions do fall quite low at times.
I kept mine (like the one above) outdoors in Wisconsin June thru Sept, where water temps easily fell into th mid to low 60sF, and never lost a one.
So if it is mixed with cyanoguttatus, that could suggest genes with a tolerance to about 60'F.
