Thinking of adding trumpet snails to my African tank. Yes? No? Thoughts? Just like the idea of moving the sand around and that they are plant friendly.I don't like adding chemicals to the tank to keep algae down. I had the in my 125 years ago. So many that as soon as the lights went out the entire gravel bed would come alive. I thought they would be bad for my plants so I got a couple loaches to get rid of them. Now,after doing some research I know better.

Hello; I currently have MTS in all but mt QT. I have had them in several tanks over a long time. I like them for the reasons already stated. They are also a fair indicator of feeding habits. I was prone to overfeed in the past and the MTS population would soar, thou not cause a problem. I also had live rooted plants in with them and the plants thrived.

I liked having them for a while. I put a 100 in my 180gal and it didnt take long before I was completely over them. To finally rid my tank of them I had to tear it down and run my sand through a strainer. I ended up with a costco size sour cream container full.
