i have a 180 reef ready im going to be transfering my africans into it well im wondering the slots in the the over flows going to be a problem with some of the small ones getting sucked to the side of them or even new borns getting sucked threw it you think there would be a problem or maybe something i could do to prevent this from happening

i say this cause the big fish i have in there now i feed them live feeders and some time feeders get stuck and if they do im sure the africans will

im just trying to figure this stuff out now befor i go and change the tank over

any input or suggestions would be great

i was thinking of maybe useing some kind of screen of somshort to cover the slots ya know

Some screen and sillicon or hot glue should help you sleep easy but I wouldnt worry about fry getting sucked up, Ive never seen fry swimming up top and if they did they would be food:popcorn: before they ever got sucked up. I have a 150 with the same type of overflow, I will be putting a screen on it so I dont have to shut filtration off everytime I feed.

yea thats what im thinking now thew question is what kind of screen can i use that wont harm the water or fish ?

and yes ill be posting pics when i do this

i think they make rubber coated fiberglass screen for screen doors.

Let me know what you find out about what type of screen as I will be doing the same. and want to know. I was thinking of siliconoing in some plexiglass braces below the openings so that I can place a coarse filter pad right behind all the holes in the overflow. I figure that way nothing can be lost to the overflow box and it will serve as a removable prefilter. Let me know what you find out, and ill post pics of my idea when I get a chane.

Here is what I opted to do I siliconed some small plexiglass pieces right under the water holes on the inside of the box. Those will then hold a square filter pad that will sit on top of them and go to the top of the box. (about two inches) This should ensure nothing can get into the O-flow and also serves as a pre-filter.

Let me know if you want pics of it.
