I know I'm not the only one who has a "bad luck" fish, that fish that's not particularly rare or delicate but for whatever reason you can't keep it alive. For me it's jurupari. I bought a couple at my LFS last spring that didn't last, then tried 3 more, same thing.

Well, I ordered a 4 pack from snookn21 (got 5) and so far, so good. The LFS ones I had were always really frail, didn't have much appetite...these that I just got are little pigs that actually seem to be showing growth after only 3 weeks. They're certainly chunky anyway. I will try to take some pics but the fish are small, my light isn't all that bright, my cam is a cheapo, and my cat leaves constant noseprints on my growout...not a recipe for success.

Yep, good luck with these - slow growers, but very interesting!

I am going to attempt to rescue a young adult from my LFS that is getting beat up by his tankmates. So, I am hoping that he will pull through.

Any ideas as to why you think the fish didn't make it? I certainly hope that isn't the scenario that plays out with this guy that I am getting. I feel really bad for him and I hope I can heal him...

Main formula for success with them is fine/small food, way smaller than you'd think... I go with pureed shrimp/pea/salmon/spinach mix and blood worms / brine shrimp. And warm, clean water. Once you get them good and healthy, they are about as tough as anything else, but they do tend to be in pretty sad shape by the time they hit the LFS. I'd bet those ones from snookn21 will do well for you!

I'm thinking the ones from my LFS were just weak stock/run down. These new ones are very scrappy too, constantly chasing each other around etc. They don't do damage, more chasing than actual biting. But they have very good appetites, I think they're going to do fine.
