I was ordering some filter socks and wanted to get some more media for the sump. It got me thinking to try something different and started looking at media bricks. It came down to the marine pure or continuum nitryx I chose the continuum since I havent seen many people using it. I thought I would test the nitrate reducing capabilities advertised. I figure its all surface area so im still gaining at the end of the day.

I did a 50% water change before adding it, ill test nitrates tomorrow night when I can get an accurate measure. My nitrates rise at a rate of around 10ppm a week. Ill keep the results posted im guessing 3-4 weeks to see any if any results. Should be interesting to see.20180108_163523.jpg

Interesting concept, please keep us posted, generally speaking, anoxic filtration takes around 6-9 weeks to reach efficacy, so I would expect nitrates to drop only after a period of time as the filter matures, important to keep expectations realistic.

Yeah will definetly keep the updates coming, I dont have super high hopes for nitrate reduction but it will be a nice little side experiment.
