I have a 20 long that has had a female bristlenose for some time now, I know she is ready to lay eggs. Never had any yet, but never tried to induce breeding with her. My buddy has a male bristlenose but its smaller. Pretty sure its at least 4-5 months old. The female is at least a year and a half. What I'm unsure of is the cave that I have created for them being sufficient enough. It opens in the front and the back. Should I have one with just one entrance? Also, does anyone know how to induce breeding with these. I only know my ph right now and thats at about 7.4. CO2 has been buffering the ph and lowering it. I use jsut straight tap water which comes out at 8.1. the tank is established, although did go thru major change of moving from a 20 tall to 20 long but kept most of the water and all the same filter media. Cycle is still very strong. I am very certian that all the other parameters are in order. I actually stopped testing them cause I was honestly wasting my tests. Every time they came out spot on, which I guess means my routine is good. Any help in making this breeding happen would be awesome.

You would be better off with a long cave with one entrance. To induce spawning, feed the fish zucchini everyday. They will spawn in no time. Male will fan and guard the eggs until they hatch.

Mine spawned the day I put a cave with only one opening. It is important for one end to be closed. Basically the male traps the female in the cave until she lays eggs. Then he takes care of the eggs fry until they are big enough to fend for themselves. My male is guarding the fry right now :)
